Gabroik scores in All Star game

By www.minnesotawildtickets.com (01/29/2008 12:37 PM)

Marian Gaborik scores in All Star gameMinnesota Wilds' lone All-Star player Marian Gaborik scored one goal in the All-Star contest. The goal wasn't enough to help the West beat the East, but it was nice that the Minnesota Wild was represented well in the game. Last year, Minnesota Wild player Brian Rolston was selected to be in the All-Star game.

Wild on top of NHL Northwest

By Wild Fan (01/25/2008 12:31 PM)

The Minnesota Wild lost to the Calgary Flames 1-2 on Tuesday in Calgary, but then turned it around and beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 in Denver to secure first place in the Northwest Division heading into the All Star Break. Way to go Wild!

Wild beats Canucks, has another chance at Calgary

By minnesota wild fan (01/22/2008 03:16 PM)

The Minnesota Wild does not look like it will fold under pressure in the Western Conference anytime soon. The Wild went out Monday night in front of the Vancouver Canucks fans and took it to them. Brian Rolston scored first in the game at 9:45 in the second period. Then Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored followed by Mikko Koivu. At that point the Wild had a 3-1 lead and it was all but wrapped up for the away team. The Wild beat the Canucks with a final score of 4-2.

The Wild takes on the Calgary Flames for yet another important division matchup. There is no clear pecking order in the division yet thanks to a log jam in the standings, but the Wild can make a statement if they find a way to win in Calgary. If the Wild beats the Flames, they can start to get separation in that Northwest Division.

Gaborik is the "First Star"

By Wild Fan (01/18/2008 01:36 PM)

Despite criticism and shortened playing time from coach Jacques Lemaire, Marian Gaborik has been showered with yet more accolades from the NHL. Gaborik was named the "First Star" out of three NHL stars of the week. Gaborik posted eight points and a +Minnesota Wild Tickets9 rating in the Wild's three wins in four games week. Part of the reason the NHL took notice of Gaborik's play could be because the Wild played the Detroit Red Wings on January 10 and somehow managed to beat them in Detroit. Rarely do the Detroit Red Wings lose, much less lose at home, and Gaborik was a big part of it, scoring the winning goal in the shootout.

Getting Minnesota Wild tickets only gets more difficult as the Wild's play improves and Marian Gaborik becomes more nationally recognized as an NHL superstar. Luckily, you can still get Wild tickets here.

Wild on a Roll

By Minnesota Wild Tickets (01/15/2008 01:31 PM)

Minnesota Wild Sold

By Minnesota Wild Tickets (01/10/2008 01:52 PM)

The Minnesota Wild franchise has been sold to former Nashville Predators owner Craig Leipold. Wild owner Bob Naegele and Minnesota Sports and Entertainment Vice Chairman Jac Sperling said the deal was expected to close in several months, pending approvals by the City of St. Paul, the NHL and others. Terms of the sale were not released.

"It is now time to pass the torch on to a new owner who will ensure that long-term success," Bob Naegele said in a prepared statement. "Craig is as committed to winning the Stanley Cup as I have been, and he represents proven, committed leadership, hockey passion and Midwestern values that have been the bedrock of our organization's success to this point - and will serve as the foundation for the success of the future."

Craig Leipold, a resident of Racine, Wisconsin, said in a prepared statement: "I have admired Bob Naegele and the entire Wild organization since the first puck dropped in 2000. It is a true privilege to become part of the organization and the hockey community in Minnesota."

Many Minnesota Wild fans hope this transition will be seamless and that the great state of hockey will continue on as usual. Buy Wild tickets now to see new owner Craig Leipold wondering the Xcel Energy Center concourses.

Marian Gaborik scored two goals against Dallas including a short handed shot. Pavol Demitra, Eric Belanger and Pierre Marc-Bouchard also added goals for the Minnesota Wild. Wild lose to NHL's best team

By Wild Hockey Fan (12/25/2007 04:46 PM)

The Minnesota Wild lost to the Detroit Red Wings Saturday night at the Xcel Energy Center 4-1. Wild fans were hoping for a superstar repeat of Thursday nights Rangers game, but were quickly reminded of the Detroit Red Wings superior skills. The Red Wings are on top of the NHL right now and it showed Saturday. The Red Wings outshot the Wild 51-19 and completely dominated all three periods silencing the normally loud Xcel Energy Center crowd.  Kim Johnsson got the lone goal for the Wild.

Said Wild forward Brian Rolston: "Obviously, that wasn't our best game, but that's the best team in the league, and we're not close to that team right now. That's our measuring stick, and we've got a long way to go."

Let's hope the Wild can regroup and come out stronger on the road vs Dallas and Phoenix this week and then put on a great show for the hometown fans on Saturday December 29th vs Edmonton Oilers. Let's go Wild!

Marian Gaborik Scores 5 goals, sets Wild record

By Wild Hockey Fan (12/22/2007 12:40 PM)

Minnesota Wild PlayerMinnesota Wild fans got their moneys worth attending the Minnesota Wild vs. New York Rangers game. Wild star Marian Gaborik scored five goals vs. the Rangers Thrusday night, setting a Minnesota Wild record. Gaborik's five goal flurry was the NHL's first five-goal game in over a decade. The Minnesota Wild beat the Rangers 6-3 and Wild fans went crazy after each goal.

Gaborik scored a goal in the first period, found the net two more times in the second and Wild fans were elated with a hat trick but Gaborik didn't stop there adding two more in the third. Wild Teammates Sean Hill and Keith Carney carried Marian Gaborik off the ice in front of 18,000+ excited Wild fans. Let's hope the Wild can continue the momentum tonight vs. Detroit! Let's go Wild!

Sea Saw Road Trip

By Minnesota Wild Fan (12/14/2007 01:22 PM)

The Minnesota Wild are on a sea saw of a road trip, meaning they lose one, they win one, they lose one...So far the Wild have lost to the Detroit Red Wings, beat the Columbus Blue Jackets and then lost to the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday night. I guess that means they are due to win one tonight in Anaheim against the Mighty Ducks. The game isn't on TV so check back to MinnesotaWildTickets.com to hear the final score!

Shut out in Detroit

By Minnesota Wild Hockey Fan (12/10/2007 02:17 PM)

The Minnesota Wild got shut out in Detroit on Friday night as the Red Wings put five goals past Josh Harding. Detroits Henrik Zetterberg got a hat trick and the Wild hardly got a chance to play out of their own zone. The second period was probably some of the worst defense the Wild has had all season and the Red Wings took full advantage of it getting three goals in less than 5 minutes. Wild winger Marian Gaborik had a chance to score in the third with a breakaway, but Detroit goalie Dominik Hasek took him out and sent him head over heels on the ice. Hasek got a two minute tripping penalty.

Let's hope the Wild fare better against the Red Wings on their home ice on December 22nd. That's a Saturday night Wild game you won't want to miss! Wild vs. Red Wings

The Wild now start a five game road trip that will start at the home of the hottest team in the NHL right now, the Detroit Lions. Go Wild! Show us what you got!

Wild lose two, win one

By Minnesota Wild Tickets (11/27/2007 01:10 PM)

The Wednesday night / Friday night home game series didn't turn out too well for the Minnesota Wild last week as they dropped both Thanksgiving week contests. First dropping the hyped up game to the Vancouver Canucks 4-2 and then the Wild were shutout by the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-0. The Wild then managed to pull off a win on the road in Nashville vs. the Predators and are sitting 5th in the Western Conference, 8 points behind the powerhouse Detroit Red Wings.

Wild Win at Xcel Energy Center, look forward to upcoming home games

By Minnesota Wild Tickets (11/20/2007 05:41 PM)

The Minnesota Wild managed only one win on their past road trip and are eager to play at home on the Xcel Energy Center ice. The wild beat the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday 4-1 at the "X." Wild goalie Josh Harding earned the win and Aaron Voros, Matt Foy, Stephane Veilleux and Brent Burns all scored for the Wild. The win moved the Wild back in front of the Northwest division.

The Wild will play arch rivals Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday November 21st. Spend Thanksgiving at home in Minnesota. Play Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday in a rare 1 PM start at the Xcel. There are still Wild tickets available for the holiday week games - check out the links below!

Wild lost two in a row

By Minnesota Wild Tickets (11/14/2007 09:51 AM)

The Minnesota Wild win two and then lose two and lose a few spots in the NHL standings. The Wild lost to division leader Colorado Avalanche and then to division rival Calgary Flames. The Wild have two more road games against divisional rivals before returning to the Xcel Energy Center to face the Avalanche again on Sunday November 18th. The Sunday game is the start of a 7 game home stand, with the exception of one road game to Nashville. The multiple home games for the Wild should help boost their position in the standings. It's a well known fact that the Minnesota Wild are tough to beat on their home pond and Minnesota Wild fans should be ready to catch Wild fever!

Wild plagued by injuries

By Minnesota Wild Fan (11/13/2007 10:10 AM)

The Minnesota Wild are without three of their arguably best players. Pavol Demitra and Marian Gaborik are both out with groin injuries and Wes Walz is out on a personal leave. Missing those three guys has been tough on the Wild. The other big guns like Brian Rolston and these days Mikko Koivu and Eric Belanger have been doing their best to carry the weight of the team, but without the big three the Minnesota Wild only have one line that can score as opposed to two or three that they had at the beginning of the season. As Coach Jacques Lemaire often says, What can you do?

"Everyone has to play - harder - so we can compete," he said.

Let's not just compete, let's win! See you at the game!

Wild Win Two in a Row

By Minnesota Wild Tickets (11/08/2007 12:41 PM)

The Minnesota Wild snapped its five game losing streak last Saturday as they beat the Calgary Flames 4-1 at the Xcel Energy Center. The Wild followed up the tremendous win with another divisional victory on Monday night vs. the Edmonton Oilers. The Wild are now ranked second to Colorado Avalanche in the Northwest Division, but with 20 points each, the teams are virtually tied. The Wild need to keep an eye on Western Conference rival Detroit Red Wings as they have shot out to a 25 point lead.

Up next for the Minnesota Wild will be another tough four game road trip that includes Colorado, Calgary, Edmonton and the Vancouver Canucks. The Wild return to the Xcel Energy Center on Sunday November 18th to face the Av's and starts a trio of home games during the Thanksgiving week. With plenty of guests in town for the holidays, Minnesota Wild tickets are sure to sell out fast so buy your Wild tickets today! View the Minnesota Wild Schedule.

Minnesota Wild November Schedule

By Minnesota Wild Tickets (11/01/2007 09:35 AM)

Even with a couple of recent losses, the Minnesota Wild still have a stellar 7-3-2 record and are second to the Detroit Red Wings in the Western Conference standings. The month of November will be challenging for the Wild as they are forced to take a 4 game Colorado/Canadian road trip where they play all 4 of the Northwest Conference rivals in consecutive road contests. The road trip is considered one of the toughest of the year. On the bright side, the Wild have a total of 8 home games in the month of November including 3 consecutive games the week of Thanksgiving.

Next up for the Minnesota Wild:

Wild vs. St Louis Blues Nov. 1st 7pm @ Xcel Energy Center

Wild vs. Calgary Flames Nov. 3rd 7pm @ Xcel Energy Center

Wild vs. Edmonton Oilers Nov. 5th 7pm @ Xcel!

Minnesota Wild Schedule - October Results

By Minnesota Wild Fan (10/25/2007 03:21 PM)

The first month of the 2007/08 NHL hockey season is quickly winding up. The Minnesota Wild has 2 more road games and then one final home game to finish up the month of October. The Wild have had a successful start to the season with just one regulation loss to the Calgary Flames. Their excellent record is not due to an easy Minnesota Wild Schedule, but due to great playing by all of the lines and superb goaltending by both Niklas Backstrom and Josh Harding.

The Minnesota Wild Schedule really heats up in November and hockey fans will be clamoring to the Xcel Energy Center. There is one more October Wild home game on October 30th vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins. There will be a special Halloween themed commemorative puck for sale and plenty of tricks and treats on this Halloween Eve. The Wild Penguin game is definitely a home game you won't want to miss!

Wild Prospects Ready

By Minnesota Wild Tickets (09/12/2007 06:47 PM)

Minnesota Wild training camp is just around the corner and the Minnesota Wild prospects just returned from the NHL ICE Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, Michigan. The prospects finished the tournament losing the third place game to the Atlanta Thrashers, but all in all had a good showing. Minnesota Wild Assistant General Manager Tom Thompson praised the players for playing hard and invited a bunch of them to attend training camp. The Wild will have 55 players at camp this year when last year they had less than 40. The Wild team is strong and ready to compete for an NHL championship. Last years playoff loss to the Mighty Ducks is long forgotten! Go Wild!

Minnesota is the State of Hockey

By Minnesota Wild Tickets (09/04/2007 07:56 PM)

Minnesota is known as the state of hockey for many reasons including the fact that the Hockey Hall of Fame was once located in Eveleth, Minnesota and the fact that Minnesota produced many of The Miracle on Ice Olympic teammates and their head coach, Herb Brooks. Not to mention, the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers hockey winning tradition and the fact that we have the weather to play hockey on natures ice outdoors. One of my favorite things about going to a Wild hockey game is listening to the Minnesota Wild Anthem "In the State of Hockey" at the start of the game. The lights dim in the Xcel Energy Center and the video and the song blast from the gigantic scoreboard in the center of the arena. It's an experience that every Minnesotan should have. If you want to see the video, visit http://www.inthestateofhockey.com/

Prospects camp give hopefuls a chance

By Wild Tickets (08/29/2007 03:02 PM)

The 2007 NHL Centre I.C.E. Prospects Tournament will give these prospects a chance to show their skills before training camp goes down. The tournament will be from September 7 to September 11 in Traverse City, Michigan. Some notable players who will be participating for the Wild include 13 draft picks, among them first rounders James Sheppard and Benoit Pouliot. Eight tryout players will also suit up for the Wild. The Minnesota Wild training camp opens Friday, September 14 at the Xcel Energy Center.

The Minnesota Wild signed a key penalty killing forward on Monday when they agreed to terms with free agent center Serge Payer. Payer spent time with the Ottawa Senators franchise last season, playing in five games for Ottawa NHL team and 43 games for the Binghamton Senators. Payer compiled 18 points on six goals and 12 assists while on the farm team. In 2005-06, Payer played for the Florida Panthers, appearing in 71 NHL contests and posting six points. But his highest value comes on the penalty kill, when he led the Panthers in shorthanded time-on-ice per game. The confidence instilled in Payer by his former team should be a valuable asset to him if he lands on the Wild NHL club for this year.

Risebrough Keeping tabs on Sheppard

By Minnesota Wild Tickets (08/15/2007 01:49 PM)

Minnesota Wild general manager Doug Risebrough said he doesn't judge his up and coming players by their performance in the Wild's mid-summer prospect camp, but he still made sure to be present at this years' camp. Risebrough wanted to keep a close eye on the Wild's 2006 first-round draft pick James Sheppard, a player Risebrough believes has NHL talent as a 19-year-old. The prospect camp is mainly to evaluate personal improvement, and not necessarily team chemistry. Risebrough said he will get a better read on Sheppard when the phenom gets on the ice with players like Marian Gaborik and Pavol Demitra in training camp.

Naegele Coy on Team Ownership

By Minnesota Wild Tickets (08/08/2007 09:42 AM)

Minnesota Wild owner Bob Naegele has been mum about his ownership of the Wild team, meaning something could be up. An ESPN.com report last Thursday reported that Craig Leipold, who is currently in the process of selling the Nashville Predators, could be buying into the Wild in the near future. Naegele declined to comment about the selling of the team. A source close to Naegele said he would be shocked if Naegele sold all his shares of the Wild to Leipold. Naegele has been known to deny that the team is on the selling block, but he is reportedly open to reducing his shares with the team.

Wild Hosts Annual Prospects Camp

By Minnesota Wild Tickets (08/02/2007 10:17 AM)

The Minnesota Wild started their 2007 Wild Prospects Camp last week at the Xcel Energy Center. Even though the ice wasn't in tip-top shape as reported by wild.nhl.com's Glen Andresen due to some glitchy Zamboni work, the Wild hopefuls were ready to go. Wild assistant coaches Mario Tremblay and Mike Ramsey are busy coaching the camp, and new Houston Aeros head coach Kevin Constantine is also keeping tabs on players that will more than likely end up with him in Houston. All the players are trying to impress, but the biggest hotshots in the camp include Petr Kalus, (who the Wild acquired in exchange for Manny Fernandez), James Sheppard and Danny Irmen. Buy Wild tickets now to see some hot prospects in action for next season.

Wild Avoid Arbitration Hearings

By Minnesota Wild Tickets (07/26/2007 04:49 PM)

The Minnesota Wild was able to stave off three consecutive arbitration hearings with some of their top players. Kurtis Foster, Derek Boogaard and Nick Schultz were all signed to contract extensions by the Wild immediately before their arbitration meetings, making Wild Assistant General Manager Tom Lynn's job much easier. Foster is a solid defenseman who logged 17:58 in ice time per game last season to go with 23 total points. Boogaard is a hard-headed enforcer whose intangible valued cannot be measured. Schultz is a durable defenseman with a positive plus/minus (+25 career) with a knack for blocking shots (141 in 2006-07). All three players helped the Wild franchise by cooperating in contract negotiations, and all three will immensely aid the Wild's chemistry for next season.

Wild Season Schedule Set

By MinnesotaWildTickets.com (07/18/2007 01:32 PM)

Minnesota Wild TicketsThe 2007-08 NHL season schedule was released last week, and the Minnesota Wild will have the opportunity to play four four-game homestands throughout the duration of the season. Four games will be the Wild's longest homestand, and the team's longest road trip will be five games. The Wild will not see any opponents this year from the NHL's Northeast Division, but the Wild will play its standard 32 games against Northwest Division rivals. The Wild will get a chance to play 17 of its last 32 games at home. If the Wild need to make a late division push for playoff positioning, they have a golden chance at the end of the season when they will play nine of the last ten games against division opponents. The Wild hopes to get off to a hot start again this season as they play their first three games at home. The season opener is October 4 against the Chicago Blackhawks. Matchups with the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Edmonton Oilers will follow in that opening homestand.

Sean Hill Signs with Wild

By MinnesotaWildTickets.com (07/11/2007 12:21 PM)

It was a surprise to many Minnesota Wild fans when the Wild front office signed New York Islander defenseman Sean Hill last week.  Hill is a hard hitting defenseman and a native Minnesotan, but it was surprising to see the Wild take a chance on him due to his drug policy violation last season. Sean Hill was the first NHL player suspended for violating the league's drug policy when he tested positive for the anabolic steroid boldenone just hours before the Islanders were set to take the ice in their playoff game vs. the Buffalo Sabres. Hill received a twenty game suspension and will miss the first nineteen games of the new 2007/08 season. Hill denies knowingly taking the steroid and the Minnesota Wild are willing to take a chance on this Duluth, Minnesota native. It is exciting to see the Wild continue to build a strong defensive team for the next hard hitting hockey season!

Wild Trade Manny Fernandez

By MinnesotaWildTickets.com (07/02/2007 04:37 PM)

It was all over the local Minnesota news stations last night and I see MN Wild Freak has already posted an article, too...Minnesota Wild goalie Manny Fernandez has been traded to the Boston Bruins. Manny Fernandez was one of the three original Wild players still with the Wild last season. He had a record of 113-102-28 in 260 games with the Wild, with a 2.47 goals-against average and .914 save percentage. Fernandez will be missed, but it was rumored he would be moving teams after the stellar performance of Wild goaltender Niklas Backstrom last season. The team re-signed Backstrom to a two-year, $6.2 million deal last month, sparking further speculation that Fernandez would be on the trading block. Fernandez told the Minneapolis Star Tribune, "I felt like this was the direction the team wanted to go with Nik doing so good last year, and I understand that."

In exchange for Fernandez, the Wild will receive forward prospect Petr Kalus and a mid-round draft pick. Kalus, a native of the Czech Republic, is a young forward who hasn't produced a lot of goals in the NHL, but the Wild are excited about his youthful energy and competitive nature. Freeing up the more than $4.3 million dollars of Manny Fernandez's salary will give the Wild more room under the $50 million salary cap so fans should look forward to the Wild picking up other free agents. Minnesota Wild Fans should stay tuned to http://www.minnesotawildtickets.com/ for all of the latest Wild off-season news. Let's go Wild!

Wild Pick Good-Fit Gillies

By Wild about the Wild (06/27/2007 10:17 AM)

Minnesota Wild assistant general manager Tommy Thompson made clear why he drafted hard-hitting but lesser known Colton Gillies over top prospects Angelo Esposito and Alexei Cherepanov. He wanted someone with solid work ethic and a will to compete. The Wild could have taken either Cherpanov or Esposito, but Gillies was simply a better fit for the Wild organization. It should be noted that Esposito was at one point expected to be the No. 1 pick in this year's draft but somehow slipped all the way to No. 20. Apparently many other teams shared the Wild's sentiments of passing over the QMJHL phenom.

The Wild hopes to get leadership from Gillies sometime down the road. Although Esposito has some captain experience, former Chicago Blackhawks coach Trent Yawney said Gillies is definitely captain material. Yawney would know because he also coached Gillies in April's World Under-18 tournament in Finland. According to Michael Russo of the Star Tribune, Tommy Thompson said Gillies had ascended his draft list in the last couple of months, and that's why Thompson traded up for him at 16th overall.

Wild is liking Lakos

By Wild about the Wild (06/20/2007 12:21 PM)

Andre Lakos might be the newest European sensation for the Minnesota Wild next season. The Austrian defenseman signed a $575,000 one-year contract for the 2007 season, and the Wild is confident he will break out in North America.

"Andre has been a top performer at the international level the last two season," said Wild assistant general manager Tom Lynn in a Star Tribune article. "We have seen his game mature and feel he is ready to re-establish himself."

Lakos had played seven years in North America but never in the NHL due to cuts in training camps and the 2004 lockout. Lakos will attempt to make the Wild squad this year, but will play for the Houston Aeros if he doesn't make the team out of training camp. Lakos played the last two seasons for Salzburg in Austria, scoring 24 goals and 74 points while logging 240 penalty minutes in 98 games.

Wild Lock in Niklas Backstrom

By MinnesotaWildTickets.com (06/13/2007 01:03 PM)

Minnesota Wild Goalie Niklas BackstromThe Minnesota Wild finalized negotiations with goalie Niklas Backstrom on June 7, putting him in position to be the Wild's goaltender for some time to come. Wild General Manager Doug Risebrough refused to comment on how much Backstrom's contract will be worth, but experts have been speculating that Backstrom would probably get $3.5 to $4.5 million a year thanks to his uncanny shot-stopping ability in the second half of last year's Wild campaign. Risebrough is currently speaking as if other Wild goalie Manny Fernandez will remain on the club for next season while Josh Harding will most likely have to wait to even be Backstrom's backup. This after Harding put together fantastic performances in limited action last season. Risebrough is less concerned with the drama of the situation than the quality of players on his team.

"My motivation was doing what is right for the team and that is to have good goaltending," Risebrough said on the Wild website.

Constantine Appointed as Aeros Head Coach

By Wild about the Wild (06/07/2007 03:38 PM)

The Minnesota Wild announced Kevin Constantine as Head Coach of the Houston Aeros on May 29. The Aeros are the Wild's primary development team, where many current Wild players have played before coming up the NHL. Constantine has more than 1,000 games of experience as a head coach in various hockey leagues including the NHL. His career NHL record is 159-153-66 with the San Jose Sharks, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the New Jersey Devils. Constantine earned the Aeros job by leading the Everett Silvertips of the WHL to a 54-15-1-2 season in 2006-07. The team made it to the Western Conference Semifinals this year.

AJ Thelen Dismissed

By Wild #1 Fan (06/07/2007 03:33 PM)

I just read over on MN Wild Freak that Minnesota Wild prospect A.J. Thelen has been dismissed from the Minnesota Wild.  Thelen's latest drinking activities more than likely led to his release. Minnesota Wild fans will have to keep an eye on Thelen and see if he is scooped up by another NHL team.

Thelen Deadline Approaching

By MinnesotaWildTickets.com (05/30/2007 10:18 AM)

Savage, Minnesota native A.J. Thelen was drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the first round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft after an All-American freshman year at Michigan State, but has yet to bear fruit for the team, spending the last three years in the juniors including an exile in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan with the lowly Raiders of the Western Hockey League.

The touted defenseman would be a senior at Michigan State this season, but he had a bad sophomore year and was eventually expelled from the team after being caught drinking underage by coach Rick Comley. The Wild has until June 1 to sign Thelen, otherwise he can re-enter the draft or challenge for free agency. Thelen hopes to be signed by the Wild, as his parents are big fans and already hold fourth-row Wild season tickets behind the Wild bench.

NHL Draft Approaches

By Wild about the Wild (05/23/2007 11:21 AM)

The 2007 NHL Entry Draft is right around the corner on June 22 and 23, and the Minnesota Wild will have the privilege to draft at spot 19 in the first round. The 19th overall draft pick will be the second lowest pick position that the team has ever had due to the immense regular season success the Wild had last year.

Perhaps the most solid of the Wild's draft picks from the 2006 draft is James Sheppard, who played center for Cape Breton of the QMJHL. The phenom scored 96 points on 33 goals and 63 assists in only 56 games of play. His plus/minus ratio was an extraordinary +39. James Sheppard also played exceptionally during his team's playoff run, with 18 points on seven goals and 11 assists in 15 games. Let's hope the Wild can take a player of Sheppard's caliber in this year's draft.

Wild Sign Draft Choices

By Wild about the Wild (05/21/2007 02:39 PM)

The Minnesota Wild continued to sign on their top draft choices by signing their 2005 fourth round pick Morten Madsen to a three-year rookie contract on Tuesday and right wing Matt Kassian earlier in the week. Kassian was the Wild's second-round pick in 2005. Madsen was playing hockey for the Victoriaville Tigers of the QMJHL and Kassian was in the WHL playing for the Kamloop Blazers. Madsen, a center, specializes in scoring while Kassian is more of penalty box fiend, logging 162 penalty minutes in 2005 with the Blazers.

Wild Season Ticket Holder List Grows

By Wild #1 Fan (05/18/2007 02:36 PM)

The Minnesota Wild fan blogs are always buzzing about Wild hockey tickets. MN Wild Freak reported that there are 16,500 Minnesota Wild season ticket holders out there and more than 7,500 on a waiting list. The Xcel Energy Center has an official seating capacity of 18,064 so that leaves a mere 1,564 single game seats available to single game fans and if there are over 7,000 Wild fans that are willing to put down a $200 deposit just to get on the list, Minnesota Wild tickets are definitely a hot commodity and will continue to be hard to find. But don't worry, Minnesota Wild fans looking to go to the Xcel Energy center for a game can always find single game tickets on sale at MinnesotaWildTickets.com. We guarantee you will receive your seats on time and without any hidden check-out fees. Your seats will be right next to each other and will allow you to enjoy a great game of hockey in the state of hockey, Minnesota! Go Minnesota Wild!

Wild Poor Sports?

By Wild about the Wild (05/09/2007 10:19 AM)

Very little was made of this topic, but the Minnesota Wild apparently displayed some poor sportsmanship after being defeated by the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in the first round of this year's Stanley Cup playoffs. It was no secret that the Wild organization was not happy after the game four punching of defenseman Kim Johnsson. But according to the Orange County Register, the Wild apparently took the punching rather badly. Wild general manager Doug Risebrough instructed Derek Boogaard to stay out of the handshake line, the story in the Register said. Additionally, the story says that Coach Jacques Lemaire avoided Ducks coach Randy Carlyle after games. Perhaps the Wild is becoming the new Vancouver Canucks, or the NHL counterpart to the NFL's Oakland Raiders, with excessive usage of their goon, Boogaard, and the increasing tendency to hold grudges against what happens on the ice. Yes!

Manny Not The Man Anymore?

By Wild about the Wild (05/04/2007 10:50 AM)

With Niklas Backstrom performing the way he did last season, especially in the playoffs, the Minnesota Wild is most likely going to trade away the oft-injured Manny Fernandez this off-season, solidifying the goalie pecking order. The Wild has used a goalie tandem for the last few years, last season with Fernandez getting the call some nights and Backstrom other nights. Josh Harding, the Wild's third goalie, performed well in the games he played, and the Wild probably would like to get him more opportunities in goal next season, which would contribute to the Wild wanting to trade Fernandez.

Trading Manny Fernandez won't be easy for the Minnesota Wild. When he's healthy he is among the elite goalies in the NHL, but his $4.5 million dollar price tag for next year might scare away teams. Also, it is not clear if Fernandez will be 100 percent ready to go for next season.

"It's just about getting my knee back," Fernandez said. "I think I'll have to do a lot of resting at the start and then get some treatments. That's it; that's the only thing I can control."

If the Wild is able to move Fernandez in the off-season, the team will be able to free cap space to sign Backstrom to a long term deal.

Wild Won't Forget

By Wild #1 Fan (04/26/2007 10:19 AM)

The Stanley Cup playoff fight may be over for the Minnesota Wild, but I don't think the animosity between the Wild and Ducks is going away any time soon. I have to agree with blogger MN Wild Freak, future games between the Minnesota Wild and the Anaheim Mighty Ducks will be a blast to watch. There will definitely be hard shots on goal and hard shots on the boards and maybe a few shots to the face because Wild enforcer Derek Boogaard doesn't forget! Check back to www.minnesotawildtickets.com throughout the off-season for Minnesota Wild news and special ticket offers. We support the Minnesota Wild all year long! Go Wild!

Wild End Season

By Wild about the Wild (04/20/2007 02:42 PM)

Chris Pronger's goal at the 1:02 mark of the first period was another tone setter for a game that was part of a series dominated by the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. In every game except game one, the Ducks came out of the gates scoring first, and Thursday night was no exception other than it sent the Minnesota Wild packing for home.

Marian Gaborik tied the score in the second period with a short-handed goal at the 15:42 mark, which kept tired Minnesota Wild fans up for maybe another five minutes until the Ducks scored the go-ahead goal less than a minute later while still on the power play. From there, the Wild looked tired in the third period, not letting the Ducks have scoring chances but not getting any of its own.

The Wild did have a golden opportunity to tie the game up before Gaborik's short-handed goal. The Wild had a five-on-three power play at 8:22 in the second, but instead of getting creative with the puck, the Minnesota Wild simply took slap shots from the point, and not many of those get through Ducks' goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere.

The Wild has now lost all five of the playoff games it has played in Anaheim. I think it's safe to say they have our number and have now ended the Minnesota Wild season.

Wild Fight Back

By Wild about the Wild (04/18/2007 10:19 AM)

The Minnesota Wild kept their playoff hopes alive Tuesday night at the Xcel Energy Center after what frighteningly looked like another smothering by the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. Ducks star defenseman Chris Pronger scored the first goal of the game at 6:08 of the second period, and it looked like the Ducks were on their way to sweeping the series. But the Wild fought their way back into the game through the rest of the second period. Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored a goal at the end of the period on the Derek Boogaard assist, and then in the third the Wild opened the offensive floodgates. With 16:37 left in the third, the Minnesota Wild finally scored their first power play goal of the series on a goal by Brian Rolston to take a 2-1 lead. The Wild went on to tack on two more goals in the period while looking like a re-energized team and winning 4-1. The Wild heads back to Anaheim for game five on Thursday. In the words of my roommate, "My Wild are (sic) back."

Wild is Beyond Desperate

By Wild about the Wild (04/17/2007 02:14 PM)

Game four is tonight, and the Minnesota Wild is now beyond desperate to get a win in their first round series against the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. Sunday night's loss put the Wild in a 0-3 hole against a suffocating Ducks team. Andy McDonald of the Ducks scored the first goal Sunday night at 16:05 in the first period. That goal silenced the Xcel Energy Center crowd and pretty much set the tone for the rest of the game. The Wild appeared unable to swing momentum in their favor throughout all three games in the series. Ever since the disputed goal in game one when Niklas Backstrom was pushed into his own goal, the Minnesota Wild hasn't been the same team. If the Wild can muster a win tonight, they would go back to Anaheim for game five with the possibility to come back to the Xcel Energy Center for game six. Let's hope we get a third game here at the Xcel!

Wild vs. Ducks, Game One

By Wild about the Wild (04/12/2007 11:10 AM)

The Minnesota Wild had two great chances to score late in the third period last night in game one of their first round playoff match-up with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, but the Ducks got the break when Kim Johnsson of the Wild ran over his own goalie, allowing Mighty Ducks' rookie Dustin Penner to score the game winning goal. The win gave the Anaheim Mighty Ducks a 1-0 lead in the series.

Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom might have been able to make a play on the game winning goal if he wasn't knocked down by his teammate. His head ended up in the goal and he couldn't get his glove on the loose puck.

Pavol Demitra had a goal in the second period for the Minnesota Wild, but it was quickly offset by Francois Beauchemin's slick flip pass to Teemu Selanne for a goal at 10:08 in the second period. Niklas Backstrom made 34 saves for the Wild, but it wasn't enough to hold off a hard charging Mighty Ducks team. Game two is Friday night in Anaheim, and it looks to be another intense, low-scoring affair between two of hockey's elite teams. Game three will be at the St Paul Xcel Energy Center on Sunday night, it's a game you won't want to miss! Go Wild!

Wild vs. Ducks, Problematic Match-up?

By Wild about the Wild (04/11/2007 09:32 AM)

I'm glad the Minnesota Wild finished up strong with a three game winning streak, but I'm a little worried about their first round match up with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. The Ducks gave us a few problems in the regular season as the Wild and Ducks split four meetings. But obviously, the Minnesota Wild has a great shot at beating the pesky Ducks.

Watching the Wild throughout the season, it looked like they could skate with anyone on any given night. The Minnesota Wild has never lost this season by more than a three goal margin, and they clearly have the best team that the franchise has ever seen, finishing with a franchise high in points for a season. Hopefully, the Minnesota Wild will use their ability to clamp down on teams at the defensive end to advance to the next round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

There are still great tickets out there if you want to see the Minnesota Wild playoff games live. There is nothing better than seeing a Wild game live and in person at the Xcel Energy Center. Go Wild!

Wild Beat Oilers

By Wild #1 Fan (04/04/2007 10:02 AM)

The Minnesota Wild shut down a struggling Edmonton Oilers team last night, winning the contest 3-0 at the Xcel Enregy Center.  The tri of goals came from Mikko Koivu, Kurtis Foster and Branko Radivojevic. Minnesota Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom was again on the top of his game, stopping all 25 Edmonton shots including shutting down a 5 on 3 Edmonton power play.

The victory gave the Wild two points, which puts them at 100 for the season. The 100 point mark still puts the Wild near the bottom of playoff contenders, but it is the first time in franchise history that the Wild have secured 100 points.

The game was great for fans and the Wilds' enforcer Derek Boogaard manhandled Zach Stortini in a fight that immediately followed fourth liner Branko Radivojevic's 10th goal of the season.  Like Boogaard, Radivojevic also won a fight when he took down Patrick Thoresen in the second period. The crowd was going nuts.

Let's hope the Minnesota Wild can keep the energy and beat the Edmonton Oilers again Thursday night for another 2 points. There are still great seats available and as the regular season winds down, fans won't want to miss a single shot.

Playoff Matchups Taking Shape

By William Wild (04/01/2007 11:10 PM)

If the season ended today, the Minnesota Wild would play the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.  The Wild and Mighty Ducks have split their season series with the Wild winning 3-2 in their most recent game on December 31st.  Keep in mind that there are three games remaining in the regular season that could change the playoff match-up for the Minnesota Wild.  The Minnesota Wild trail divsion leading Vancouver by three points and San Jose by four points.  I am sure that the last three home games will have a playoff atmosphere and the Xcel Energy Center will be rocking!

Wild Clinch Playoff Spot

By Wild #1 Fan (03/28/2007 12:02 PM)

The Minnesota Wild ended their nine-game win streak last night when they lost to the Calgary Flames in a 1-0 shootout. Despite the loss, the Wild picked up a point and officially clinched a playoff spot for the second time in franchise history because the Colorado Avalanche lost to the Vancouver Canucks.

The game against Calgary was hard fought, no doubt. The Flames goalie, Miikka Kiprusoff, was a solid road block stopping 38 shots. Late in the first period, the Wild had a controversial goal by Koivu. He cranked a shot from the point that was deflected on the way into the net. The play was initially ruled a goal, but after a long review from the League offices in Toronto, officials claimed there was enough evidence of Parrish clipping the shot with a high stick and the goal was overturned. The team didn't fret the disappointing call and continued to play hard the entire game, but just came up empty in the shootout.

The Wild are playing really strong hockey right now and the stellar goaltending and airtight defensive play have the Wild feeling swell with the playoffs officially on the horizon. Congratulations Minnesota Wild! Attention Minnesota Wild fans, get your Wild Playoff Tickets now! Hockey Hoopla has just begun!

Wild are Playoff bound

By Wild #1 Fan (03/23/2007 01:39 PM)

The red hot Minnesota Wild are sure to make the play-offs. The Wild only have a few games left and almost all of them are at home.  After a stellar 5-1 win last night vs. the St. Louis Blues, our great Minnesota Wild put the final touches on a 7 game winning streak. It didn't even matter that the Blues scored first because Marian Gaborik and Pavol Demitra were moving the puck at will and a big night was in the cards. Gaborik scored twice and assisted once while Demitra scored once and assisted twice. They are definitely the Minnesota Wild dream team!

The Wild definitely put on the greatest show on ice and the playoffs are sure to be spectacular! With the Minnesota Wild firing on all cylinders, who knows what could happen. A Stanley Cup is not that far away! The Wild's magic number is now down to six points with seven games to play. Any Wild win reduces that number by two, as would any loss by the Colorado Avalanche.

Want to see what team the Wild are going to play? I found this great NHL playoff match-up tool on espn.com that updates after every game. Check it out and Go Wild!

EIGHT MORE MINNESOTA WILD HOME GAMES

By Wendy Wild (03/15/2007 04:22 PM)

IT IS NICE TO HAVE BOOGAARD BACK

By Wilbur Wild (03/13/2007 10:19 PM)

I don't like it whenever Derek Boogaard isn't suited up for a Minnesota Wild game.  He has an uncanny ability to completely change the momentum of any game when he is on the ice.  If you watch a game closely, the opposing players skate around looking over their shoulders and are so preoccupied with not getting drilled that they seem to almost forget that they are in the middle of an NHL game.  It is really good to see him back in the lineup tonight after missing a few games with back issues.  I hope that the Vancouver Canucks have eyes in the backs of their heads because the "Boogie Man" is on the prowl.

With their overtime victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday, the Minnesota Wild solidified their spot in this years NHL Playoffs.  It would take and absolute collapse for the Wild to miss the playoffs and I don't see that happening with how well they are playing right now.  In watching the game yesterday, it was obvious to me that Backstrom should be the starting goalie the rest of this year.  I am a firm believer in that if it isn't broken, don't fix it.  He is playing as well as any goalie in the NHL right now.  It is possible for a team to ride a hot gaolie all the way to the Stanley Cup.  As a Minnesota Wild fan, I witnessed that a few years ago when the Anaheim Mighty Ducks knocked out the Minnesota Wild in the playoffs.  The games were very even except for the unbelievable goaltending of Giguere.  I just hope that Jacques Lemaire also follows the rule and doesn't change the goalie rotation because there is nothing broken with the Minnesota Wild.

WHAT A HUGE WIN FOR THE MINNESOTA WILD

By Wilbur Wild (03/09/2007 08:26 AM)

Just when I was starting to feel very comfortable about the Minnesota Wild making the NHL Playoffs, the Colorado Avalanche went on a five game winning streak to pull within six point of the Wild for the last playoff spot.  That made last night a must win game for the Minnesota Wild.  The only problem was that the Boston Bruins were also playing for their playoff lives.  Brian Rolston and Pierre Marc Bouchard each scored in a Wild 2-0 win.  I feel like this was definitely a statement game for the Wild.  With the win they stretched their lead to eight points over the Colorado Avalanche.  Guess who is coming to town Sunday?  If you said the Colorado Avalanche, you are correct.  What a huge game!  I am sure that the game versus the Avalanche will have a playoff feel.  If you want to see it in person, there are tickets starting at just $49.

MINNESOTA WILD NEEDS A WIN TONIGHT

By Wilma Wild (03/06/2007 01:25 PM)

The Minnesota Wild faces off against the San Jose Sharks tonight at the Xcel Energy Center.  A win by the Wild tonight and a loss by the Vancouver Canucks would bring the Wild into a tie for the Northwest Division lead.  Winning the division is crucial because the winner of the division will receive the third seed in the playoffs which definitely increases the chance of a long playoff run by my favorite NHL team.  I will be watching the game from the edge of my sofa tonight.  If you want to watch the game from the edge of your seats at the Xcel Energy Center don't delay.  There are still a few tickets starting at just $49 that can be picked up tonight in St. Paul.

MINNESOTA WILD VERSUS COLORADO AVALANCHE

By Willard Wild (03/05/2007 10:52 AM)

The game this Sunday versus the Colorado Avalanche at the Xcel Energy Center could be the nail in the coffin for the Avalanche and their NHL Playoff hopes.  They are currently 10 points behind the Wild for the 8th and final playoff spot.  If the Minnesota Wild beats the Avalanche, the Wild's lead would increase to twelve points.  Barring any late season collapse, the Minnesota Wild would have an insurmountable advantage over the Avalanche.  Thus, I am sure that this game will have playoff type intensity with each team giving 110%.  It isn't too late to snap up some seats for the big game!

MINNESOTA WILD ROAD TRIP

By Wild #1 Fan (03/01/2007 01:27 PM)

The Minnesota Wild lost to the Calgary Flames last night in a heart breaking 2-1 loss that ended in a shootout. The Wild continue on their road trip to play the Edmonton Oilers tonight. The Wild team had to take a bus up to Edmonton late last night after learning that the team charter was grounded due to mechanical difficulties. It wasn't the best news for a team that has to play consecutive nights against Northwest Division rivals, but I know my Minnesota Wild, they can tough it out and come away with a victory.  The Wild will have to play without Niklas Backstrom as he nurses a lower body injury, but young gun Josh Harding did a tremendous job vs. the Flames stopping 21 of 22 shots and I know he can shut down the injury clad Oilers as well. Let's go Wild!

Fun Minnesota Wild Stat: The Wild has not lost a game by more than three goals all season.

I AM ADDICTED TO THE MINNESOTA WILD

By Wilbur Wild (02/26/2007 12:53 PM)

I am a little embarrassed to admit it but I am addicted to watching the Minnesota Wild.  I am nervous about the fact that the Wild doesn't play at home until 3/6/2007 when they take on the San Jose Sharks.  What am I going to do to kill time before they return?

I hope Niklas Backstrom is as unbeatable when they come back from their long road trip as he has been since Manny Fernandez went down with his injury.  At least there is television.  I can't wait to watch the game this Sunday versus arch rival Vancouver.  This is as big of a game as Gaborik and the rest of the Minnesota Wild crew will play this year.  I am sure that Jacques Lemaire will have the boys flying for this game!

MINNESOTA WILD IS ON FIRE!!!

By Wilbur Wild (02/25/2007 12:56 PM)

I have a warning for the rest of the NHL; The Minnesota Wild is on a roll!  The Wild followed up their big win over the Colorado Avalanche with an equally big win over the Edmonton Oilers.  The win solidified the Wild's playoff hopes and brought them within 3 points of the division leading Vancouver Canucks. I just read mnwildfreak and I agree with his hunch that the "Minnesota Wild may ride this momentum all the way to the Stanley Cup."  I hope that we are right!
