Kurtis Foster was born on Nov. 24, 1981 in Carp, Ontario, Canada. He started playing hockey at the age of four and his biggest influence to play hockey was that of his father. His favorite team as a child was the St. Louis Blues and he idolized Brett Hull.

He started his hockey career in the amateurs with Peterborough. From 1997 to 2002, Kurtis Foster spent five seasons there and in the process scored 36 goals and assisted on 60 goals. Kurtis Foster was officially drafted into the NHL in 2000, when the Calgary Flames’ selected him 40th overall. Foster went on to make his NHL debut with the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2002-03 season. For most of his career with the Thrashers, Kurtis Foster played for AHL teams including Chicago, Cincinnati and Houston. His best season in the AHL came in 2002-03, where he posted 15 goals and 27 assists in 75 games.

On August 4, 2005, the Minnesota Wild signed Foster as a free agent. In the 2005-06 season, Kurtis Foster started to play extensively for the Minnesota Wild, playing in 58 games leading all Minnesota defenseman in points with 28 and goals (10). He is only the seventh player in Minnesota Wild history to score a goal in his first game playing for the Wild. He is also the first player to ever score two goals for the Wild in his first game for them. Overall, Kurtis Foster has appeared in 63 NHL games for the Atlanta Thrashers and the Minnesota Wild, registering 10 goals, 19 assists and 40 PIM.

In the off-season, Kurtis Foster resides in Peterborough, Ontario. “Fozzy” or “Fosty” calls Derek Mackenzie and Mikko Koivu his best friends in hockey. He enjoys going to the Mall of America while hanging out in Minnesota. He likes to travel on the road to Vancouver, but he says the league’s best jersey design belongs to the Minnesota Wild
