Petteri Nummelin
Petteri Nummelin was born on November 25, 1972 in Turku, Finland. He started playing hockey at the age of six at the urging of his father, who he calls the biggest influence on his hockey career. While growing up Nummelin’s favorite NHL team was the Montreal Canadiens and his favorite player was Paul Coffey. Along with playing hockey, Petteri Nummelin also played soccer as a youth. Throughout Petteri Nummelin’s career, he has spent most of his time in the Swiss League, playing for both HC Davos from 1997 to 2000 and HC Lugano from 2001 to 2006. Nummelin took a year off from the Swiss League to play in the NHL in the 2000-01 season for the Columbus Blue Jackets, as he was the Blue Jackets’ fifth round choice in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. That year, the defenseman appeared in 61 games for Columbus while recording 16 points on four goals and 12 assists. After going back to the Swiss League, Nummelin came back to play in the National Hockey League for the Minnesota Wild in the 2006-07 season. He was acquired from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for a conditional third round draft pick on June 14, 2006. In his second year of NHL action, Nummelin scored 20 points for the Wild in only 51 games. His career numbers in the NHL include 112 games played, 7 goals scored and 29 assists for a total of 36 points. Petteri Nummelin is married to his wife, Riina, and the couple has three children, daughters Ada and Isa and a son, Rene. “Nummi” likes to play golf and tennis in his downtime from hockey. Someday, Petteri Nummelin wants to get into coaching after he is done playing. He likes to vacation in France. © 2008 MinnesotaWildTickets.com Terms of Service |
